Is AVR programming and firmware update necessary for hk multirotor controller V3.0?

Is it necessary to do the avr programming, firmware update and stuff on the hk multi rotor control board V3.0 ? Because I'm totally new to these kind of projects and I would prefer only to control my multi rotor by rc. If so, I need to know what the default configuration is. If avr programming, firmware update and stuff is necessary, then please help me with this by giving me a detailed explanation of how to do it.
